Regattas

The irony that I would write about posting more often, then not make an entry for such a long time is not lost on me. My only excuse is that I have been working so many hours since before the Holiday weekend started. Don’t feel too bad for me, though. This is the view I gazed at as I settled down in my chair to watch the fireworks the night of July third.

I had to stay after the show ended to ferry the fireworks crew and all their equipment back to the marina from the island where they shot them off. My day started at 8am on the third and ended a little after 11pm. On the Fourth, we had the big barbecue on the bluff overlooking the river. Even though I was working, I took time out to get my fill of juicy ribs and corn on the cob.

All in all it was a fun filled and safe weekend on the waterways here. I wish I could say that for the rest of the country, but at least my charges behaved themselves accordingly.

This weekend it was regatta time as we hosted the annual Firecraker Regatta.

Storms loomed on Saturday as all the boats got out to the starting line. When lightning started to flash, the committee called a halt to the races and all the boats came back to the marina at one time. Just as the little boats pulled into the docks, the bottom dropped out of the sky and rain fell so hard you couldn’t even see the end of each dock. Talk about a Chinese fire drill, LOL! My crew scurried down and helped get all the boats secured and children and adults safe. An hour later the rain had passed and they went out to try again. This time they got five races in and the day was a success.

Next weekend we are hosting the United States Sailing Junior Olympics. It will be the first time our facility has had this event and we are excited to have it here. It will mean the third weekend in a row of long hours for me, but I am looking forward to it.

In the meantime, I am resting, playing with my grandson and trying to read a few journals. If I don’t leave comments as usual, forgive me, I’ll be back to a more normal schedule next week.

Fun in the sun, even though you are working.  Great spot for fireworks.  Glad you had a good 4th and enjoy your downtime, while you have it.

I envy you your view if that is what you see every day. I have never been on a sailboat but love to watch them on the water. I'm a bass and or speedboat kind of gal, on nice smooth lake water please. : )

Busy is good if it is doing something that you do, to me. One day I hope to live on a lake to enjoy all the wonderful things one can do...fishing, boating, laying out in the sun, ice fishing, skating, swimming, water skiing...the list is absolutely endless.

You and your family are very fortunate to live near the ocean and to have a job that forces you to be there, while I'm sure some days it isn't always peachy-keen, I would think that most days, the way you write about it, that you have found your paradise.

Whoa, glad to see you are okay...I was beginning to think some irate Canadians took you hostage (I still think about that entry).  Anyway, Life sounds grande for you, even when you are working hard.  It's a good time to be you.  I'd type more but my carpal tunnel is flaring up and my neck is killing me...and I'm only 29, it can only get better, right?  Please tell me it will, LOL!

Sam

This is a wonderful entry. I love when journal authors speak to me as if I were right there in the same room...sharing the view of the sunset. As you know, I love the ocean and any body of water for that matter. I love your photos of the boats and the sunsets. I will be looking forward to seeing many more. Enjoy your week my friend and thanks for the awesome views.

Always, Carly :)

Pass those juicy ribs and corn on the cob, please!  Glad to hear the holiday weekend was safe for you and your troops.  Nice job with getting everyone safely off the water before the storms.  That must be a colossal undertaking.  And I can’t imagine what goes in to hosting the U.S. Sailing Junior Olympics!  What an honor that must be to host.
Best,
Judith

Well Sam, glad you got to take some time off to throw back and relax a little after all of that. Great entry...you have a knack for the creative writing. I love marinas and boating, and I always feel as though I'm there when I read you.

So, sit back and relax a little more now!

Everything sounds simply wonderful.  I've wondered what it was like for a dock crew in a bad storm.  Take care down there.

Hello again...I wondered how you were. I would have liked being there to have seen this view. You are lucky to see such a wonderful view as this. I have never seen the Regatta. I recently took a trip with my parents to Red Top Mountain and we saw Lake Allatoona it was beautiful. People were in their boats on the water and the water was beautiful. I wish I could have been there to see the view you did though. Your journal lets me see the things you do. I am always glad to read your journal. Don't work too hard......

What a perfect view!  I'm envious, even if you were working... it is simply gorgeous  :)

Look at all the little boats!  I get a kick out of watching them, especially when there are big boats near them.  Yeah... it doesn't take much to amuse me :)  Glad they got to race, that would be a sight!

Ohhh, next weekend sounds like a blast!  I wish we lived close enough to water that Gracie could get her 'sea legs' early in life!  I hope all goes well for that event, including the weather ;)

No need to forgive you, we all get busy with life and work... and we'll all still be around when things settle :)  In the meantime, take care and enjoy that grandson awhile....

The view alone, sort of makes working all of those hours worth while, right?

After reading you and looking at your pictures it almost makes me want to go on a boat again, shoot, it almost makes me want to visit Georgia again. My husband was stationed there in 1970. I still remember the smell of the Georgia pines, the paper mills and the water.   Anne

Thank you for visiting our journal and appending a comment. It would be nice if, at some point, Spielberg, Dreamworks and TNT teamed up to weave the threads into a more detailed tapestry, but yes, this is a satisfying production.
I appreciate the photos, since my travel is limited, and I would never otherwise see the sights (and sites) that are depicted in the pictures I view.

If I was as busy as you, I wouldn't even have a journal. Then again, I haven't written in such a long time, maybe I don't!

What a great place to live & work. I'm a little jealous, BUT, not too much!! LOL rich

Sam, I always know when I stop by it shall be a treat for both my eyes and my mind.  And don't worry about the posting irony, there's this thing called Life and journals take time to do...to write as well as comment in.  Be good to yourself, and have a beer or two.  Heck, I'm having an ugly right now.  Here's to ya Sam!

I've come by before, but the Marina was always so crowded. It's a pleasure to share Mrs. L's recognition with another dock rat. some times nice guys don't finish last.
